4.3 Base Types

The base types class ( Figure 4.3-1 , partial list) defines the intended abstract supertypes for the data types shown. Each is defined in the EA model and the technical reference guide. These types are specializations of normal XML schema datatypes with special purposes, for example, specific maximum lengths for string types. They provide consistency and protect consumers of the standard documents from potentially unlimited-length strings appearing in documents. In the case of UUID string, an XML regular expression pattern is applied so XML schema validation could be used to reject an improperly-formed UUID.
